What is Tarakashi jewellery?

Tarakashi is a centuries-old silver filigree craft from Cuttack, Odisha. It is a GI-tagged Indian heritage craft where skilled artisans draw pure silver into ultra-fine wires and weave them into intricate lacy patterns. Each piece takes hours or days to complete. Rajodi's Tarakashi collection celebrates this art in BIS hallmarked 925 sterling silver.

Why is Tarakashi jewellery special?

Tarakashi is one of India's most treasured GI-tagged crafts from Cuttack, Odisha. No two pieces are identical — each is entirely handmade by a traditional artisan. The craft requires extreme skill, patience, and years of training. Owning Tarakashi jewellery means owning a piece of India's living heritage.

Is Tarakashi jewellery made of real silver?

Yes, all Rajodi Tarakashi jewellery is made of BIS hallmarked 925 sterling silver — 92.5% pure silver. The fine wires used in the filigree work are drawn from genuine 925 silver, guaranteeing authenticity and purity in every piece.

How do I care for Tarakashi silver jewellery?

Tarakashi filigree is delicate. Store each piece individually in a soft cloth pouch. Avoid contact with water, perfume, lotions, and chemicals. Do not wear during physical activity. Clean gently with a soft dry cloth only. Handle with care as fine filigree wires can bend if pressed hard.

What is the difference between Tarakashi and regular silver jewellery?

Regular silver jewellery is typically machine-made and mass-produced. Tarakashi is entirely handcrafted by trained artisans in Cuttack, Odisha using centuries-old techniques. Fine silver wires are hand-drawn and woven into intricate patterns — a single piece can take days to complete. Tarakashi is a GI-tagged Indian heritage craft, making it far more rare and precious.
